Week 12 ~ March 22-29, 2020

March 18, 2020 by

Please note: Due to mandated social limitations we have decided to postpone activities for the next 2+ weeks. Please review this brochure for suggested activities during your stay here.

Did you know Sunshine and Fresh Air are nature’s best remedies?! Enjoy your stay!

MONDAY, MARCH 23RD

World Meteorological Day.

Did you know some of the best star gazing can be done on the Kancamagus Highway? Being in the White Mountain National Forest there is not any light pollution. Be sure to pick a clear night, bundle up and watch the night sky for stars. The best time to go stargazing is the days before, during and soon after each new moon. The moon is less visible in the night sky and therefore does not wash out the light from fainter starts. You will be able to see thousand of stars with just your naked eye compared to a few hundred at other times.

***Suggested Day Trip on the Kancamagus Highway. Turn left out of our driveway on a nice sunny day and enjoy scenic vistas and family friendly hikes. Please purchase a parking pass for $5 at Lincoln Woods. Hikes of interest are Lincoln Woods, Sabbaday Falls & Rocky Gorge. Please keep in mind that shaded areas such as the forest will have a lot of snow and ice existing. We recommend you borrow yak-tracks and/or micro-spikes from the Front Desk. TUESDAY, MARCH 24TH

National Cheesesteak Day!

Make a delicious Steak and Cheese for Lunch!

Walk to Loon Mountain and Back. Approx. 2 miles round trip. At bottom of driveway trail starts to the left of our InnSeason Resorts Sign.

Suggested Covered Bridge Tour: Take a pamphlet from the table in the main lobby for a tour of covered bridges, historical general stores, gift shops and scenic overlooks. You won’t be disappointed!

Board Game Night. Borrow a board game from our lobby library and let the fun begin!

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25TH

International Waffle Day

Start your day with a frozen waffle! Spice it up with yogurt and fruit for toppings!

Suggested Hike to the Basin: Hike approx. 1 mile (round-trip) to a series of stunning waterfalls in Franconia Notch State Park. We recommend you borrow yak-tracks and/or micro-spikes from the Front Desk. (Maps located in the lobby)

Suggested trip to Fadden’s General Store. Fifth-Generation Fadden’s still own and operate this authentic 18th-century General Store, complete with squeaky floors and original counters and display cases. Inside you will find all manner of goods for sale including maple products, specialty foods, NH-made items and souvenirs, as well as a museum filled with maple syrup-making artifacts, old photographs; antiques store paraphernalia and area memorabilia.

Cribbage night! Grab some cards and a cribbage set from the lobby library.

THURSDAY, MARCH 26TH

International Spinach Day!

Make a spinach salad! My favorite toppings are walnuts, craisins, hard boiled eggs with a balsamic dressing. Don’t forget the Feta cheese! Or any cheese you fancy!

Suggested Hike to Bridal Veil Falls. Beginner/intermediate hike. Approx. 5 miles round trip. 1100’ elevation gain. Take I-93 North to exit 38. Take left off exit and follow 116 approx. 3.4 miles to Coppermine rd. on your left. Park in small parking area and walk up the road, bear left about 0.4 miles in at a hiker symbol, walking up an older road. At about 1 mile you approach Coppermine Brook on the right. The grades are easy with an occasional moderate pitch, all the way to the falls, and the woods and brook scenery are pretty in this secluded valley. At 2.3 miles the trail crosses the brook on a bridge, passes a lean to and ends at the base of the falls.See the source image

Jammie Jamboree. Put your jammies on and dance the night away with your favorite music.

FRIDAY, MARCH 27TH

National Spanish Paella Day!

Paella is a quintessentially Spanish rice dish that is thought to have originated in the Valencia region of Spain. The dish is typically made of rice, different kinds of beans, and meat. It is flavored with saffron, paprika, and other spices and herbs. At least two different versions of the dish exist. Seafood paella replaces the beans and the meat, which is usually chicken, rabbit, or snails, with seafood. Common seafood additions to the seafood paella are lobster, mussels, and shrimp. Mixed paella, on the other hand, includes both meat and seafood.  See the source image

Suggested Hike at the Flume Gorge: Take a map from the lobby for a 2-mile round trip hike through the beautiful Flume Gorge. Be aware there are hills involved. We recommend you borrow yak-tracks and/or micro-spikes from the Front Desk.

Favorite Suggested Hikes – Guided Hike to Kilburn Crags: Beginner/Intermediate Hike. Approx. 1.8 miles round trip. Check out this steady uphill climb to a scenic vista overlooking the wonderful White Mountains and the quaint town of Littleton. We recommend you borrow yak-tracks and/or micro-spikes from the Front Desk. Take I-93 North to Exit 43. Take a right off exit and the next right onto Route-18/Rt-135/St. Johnsbury Rd. In about ½ mile your destination will be on the left. Look for a small green trail marker sign. If you drive past Moore Dam Honda, you’ve gone too far. Afterwards, explore Historical Littleton’s Main St. District. WARNING; MANY STORES MAY BE CLOSED OR HAVE LIMITED HOURS. WINDOW SHOPPING IS BEST.

Suggested Scenic Drive – 100 mile loop!

If you’ve spent much time in New Hampshire, you’ve probably driven on the Kancamagus Highway. But you might not have realized that the 34.5 miles of the Kanc is part of a larger, absolutely spectacular 100-mile loop drive that will give you views of some of the most scenic spots in the Granite State. What are you waiting for? Gas up your car now! Find a detailed map in the main lobby.

Google Map Directions HERE!

Suggested Moose Sighting Routes; This time of year can be the best time for seeing Moose in the broad daylight as opposed to evening when they normally come out in the summer months. Moose lack sodium as part of their winter diet. With the melting snow, spring is a prime time for Moose to come off the “hills” and look for melting snow collecting on sides of roads we call wallows. The best Routes for watching Moose are along the 100 mile loop,  as well as Route 118 towards Warren. Route 112 West towards Woodsville, Route 3 towards Twin Mountain, and further North on Route 115, Route 2 and Route 115. Don’t forget your camera! Always be courteous to wildlife. Do NOT ever approach.
